Town of Lloyd Committee Endorses Former State Assemblyman Skartados to run in Special Election

Frank Skartados, New York State Assemblyman of the 100th District from 2009-2010, is
preparing to take back that seat. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced
a Special Election will be held March 20th to fill the
vacancy left by the recent passing of Tom Kirwan, who died after a lengthy illness.
Reflecting on his first term in office, Mr. Skartados says, “I have always put the people
of the Hudson Valley above politics and fought hard to make Albany realize the valuable
natural resources the Valley has for potential business and agritourism. I sincerely
would like to resume my efforts in the State Assembly in the fight for jobs creation,
technology innovation, sound infrastructure, smart economic expansion, and the safety
of our environment.”
Skartados won the seat in the 2008 Election when he ran against Kirwan. In a 2010
rematch, Skartados lost by only 15 votes in what is considered to be the longest
undecided race in state history. Commenting on the closeness of that election, Mr.
Skartados says, “I am encouraged to resume that office, knowing that I have the
support of so many constituents of the 100th AD. My last election showed me that the
people have appreciated the two years I served on their behalf. I am determined to work
hard for them again.”
The 100th Assembly District is comprised of parts of Dutchess, Orange and Ulster
Counties which include the Cities of Poughkeepsie, Newburgh and Beacon, and the
Towns of Lloyd, Marlborough, Newburgh and Shawangunk.
